Sabra silk incorporated in our candle collection

Many of you when you read this title, you probably raised your eyebrows and asked this question: what is this silk? what is Sabra?. We received so many questions about this type of silk and here we have described it for you to learn more about it.
Sabra, called vegetative silk, is a fabric imitating the aspect of silk. In the past, created from fibers of Aloe Vera, nowadays in most cases, composed of synthetic substances (mainly viscose) and coupled with wool and cotton. Entwined of vegetative fibers in order to make links is an ancient know-how. The noblest substance ever used in Passementerie is without dispute the Silk which of the culture is practiced since the second the millennium before J-C. in the Far East. It is true that the richness of the pallet of colors, which it can offer is an extraordinary asset for Sabra, especially in the field of Fashion. This material is a necessity in the Moroccan craft industry especially Moroccan Haute Couture. Caftan is the traditional dress that Moroccan women wear on parties and weddings. For instance, one caftan request at least hundred grams of Sabra, eight meters of braid and two hundred buttons. Some require up to five hundreds!

Thuya- an exotic wood embedded in wax luminaries to create a new design
You probably saw some of our wax luminaries (tea candles holders) with the embedded Thuya wood and certainly wondered where this wood is coming from. Today we decided to write about Thuya and explain what this exotic wood is and its origin.
Thuya tree (pronounced tweeya) is a unique conifer tree related to cedar, grown only in Morocco, precisely in Atlas Mountains regions (Essaouira, Azemour, Idaoutanane,…). A sort of evergreen trees thickly branched, remarkable for the special arrangement of their branches. The rare aromatic hard wood of Thuya tree is unique from all kinds of exotic woods.
Thuya wood availability The beautiful and rare wood is not available anywhere, except in MOROCCO. Therefore, exploitation of this wood is very controlled, as well as it’s exportation as crude or cut to size wood, which is strictly not allowed. Thuya wood has become strictly regulated by the Moroccan government and very hard to come by. Thuya wood manufacturers have so many problems to find nice pieces or slabs for their works. The most beautiful, hard, and presenting various textures in Thuya wood, is the bloc of the root, but, unfortunately, because of being under ground for a long time, it presents, in majority of cases, many defects such as cracks, porosity caused by water, presence of rocks or bad holes inside…etc. but from the intact blocks of the root, very nice products are made.
Thuya products quality Most of products made from Thuya wood are classified as luxury products, for example some of high class cars accessories are made from this wood, such as trophies, luxurious cigar or pen boxes, luxury package for high class shoes, …etc. The beautiful burled root wood and the limited number of craftsmen creating these products makes them unique and beautiful gifts to be treasured for a longtime.
Thuya products manufacture The process of manufacture of different kinds of Thuya products is very hard and require numerous hours of laborious work. It also requires as much as possible of attention and ability, specially in wood choosing, measurement, cutting, pieces sorting, design choosing, collage, adjustment of openings, wire working, painting, finishing, and polishing. The same attention and ability are required for turned products, especially for not to damage the Thuya wood blanks, and for making the opening made to measure.
Thuya products polishing The process of polishing all Thuya products is as delicate as their manufacture. In addition to various products used to polish, such as: wax, abrasive paper, alcohol, oil, lacquer gum, cotton & cloth for polishing, the craftsman has to pass on hundreds times the polishing liquid on surfaces of the piece that he works, he has to do it with as much as possible of delicateness until he reach the most shiny polish, clearing in this way the beauty of Thuya wood textures.

Secrets to spotless candles…Learn how to maintain your candle.
How many of us like to collect candles or wax tea candle holders (also called luminaries or photophores) and use them for decoration around the house or office but we don’t burn them most of the time. How many of us leave the candles or wax tea candle holders setting for a while in one area in the house and forget about them until they fade or look old and not very attractive. Then we decide to just get rid of them and sometimes burn them since they don’t have that good look any more which we liked the first time we bought them.

In order to protect the wax from fading and losing its original color, try buying the good quality wax that has the anti-UV light mixed in the wax. Although, some wax suppliers claim it has a high concentrate, it’s not a 100% protective and the frequent exposure to the sun or UV light can affect the color overtime. Try these simple and easy tips that can protect your beautiful candles or wax tea candle holders for a long time.

Wax Luminaries on THE BACHELORETTE (abc show)
Here are some pictures of the wax lumiaries featured in the abc show ” The bachlorette”.
Jilian Harris “the star” went to spain with her final four bachelors, the journey included a picnic, a tour in Barcelona and a flamenco dance with every partner. The table was decorated with some candles and a white spherical wax lumiary (photophore).
after that wonderful romantic dinner “aux chandelles” the couple hit back to the hotel.

Hope with luminaries
On Memorial Day, thousands of floating luminaries were released in the Ala Moana Beach in Hawaii. The ceremony is called Toro Nagashi and is held on every Memorial Day to honor our National heroes. This ceremony takes place in Japan as well at the end of the O-Ban. The Japanese families welcome the souls of their ancestors during this celebration and float luminaries on the river and the sea to illuminate the way for the spirits as they leave.
